Product description

The Reishi Mushroom, scientifically known as Ganoderma lucidum, is one of the most recognisable medicinal fungi in the world. Native to hardwood forests throughout Asia, Europe, and North America, this striking mushroom has been cultivated for centuries and remains a favourite among growers, herbalists, and mushroom enthusiasts alike.

The Reishi Mushroom develops antler-like formations. Displaying deep red and chestnut hues with a glossy finish, mature mushrooms create an impressive visual display. Unlike culinary mushrooms, Reishi is prized for its woody texture and ornamental appearance, making it a rewarding species for cultivators seeking something truly unique.

Extended Delivery Areas

Certain UK postcodes may require 2–5 business days for delivery.

FAQs

What is the recommended ratio of spawn to substrate for growing mushrooms?

If you’re referring to growing mushrooms in bags or containers, we typically recommend a 10% ratio of spawn to substrate (dry weight). For example 1L/600g of spawn would be suitable for a dry substrate weight of 6kg.

Alternatively, if you’re referring to growing mushrooms in an outdoor environment such as mushroom bed, we would recommend 1 litre of spawn per square metre.

How do I store my spawn?

Each species of mushroom spawn will require specific storage conditions. Most are between 1-5 degrees Celsius, which can be stored in the fridge.

For tropical varieties such as the Pink Oyster, store in temperatures as close to 10 degrees Celsius but no lower! This species hates the cold and the mycelium will die if it's stored in the fridge.

Should I get grain or plug spawn?

Grain spawn is best if you’re starting indoors or using bulk substrates like sawdust, straw, or compost. It colonises quickly, is highly versatile, and is usually the preferred option for faster, larger yields.

Plug spawn is designed for inoculating logs. You drill holes into hardwood logs, insert the plugs, and seal them with wax. It’s slower to colonise and produce mushrooms, but it’s very low-maintenance and can keep fruiting for several years once established.
