Head of Operations

About the Role
We’re scaling rapidly and are looking for a Head of Operations to grow with us.
As the UK pioneer of large-scale Lion’s Mane mushroom cultivation, this is a rare opportunity to help build and lead a national operation. You’ll play a central role in developing our systems, people, and culture while ensuring performance, compliance, and quality remain exceptional as we grow.
This role suits a hands-on operational leader who thrives in fast-growth environments and enjoys turning complexity into clear, effective processes.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for leading and continuously improving all operational activity, including:
- Driving production performance and yield optimisation
- Ensuring food safety, quality, and compliance excellence
- Leading multi-shift teams and developing high-performing operational culture
- Budget ownership, cost control, and resource planning
- Oversight of customer service and operational delivery
- Building scalable systems to support growth across the UK
Skills, Experience & Knowledge
We’re looking for someone who brings strong operational capability within food production or cultivation environments, including:
- Strong confidence in health & safety, compliance, and sustainability within a food production setting
- Practical understanding of logistical and regulatory constraints
- Working knowledge of warehousing, stock control, stock flow, layout planning, and optimal resourcing to meet demand
- Familiarity with HACCP principles and Critical Control Points (CCPs)
- Understanding of food cultivation and production processes
- Proven experience managing multi-shift operational teams
- Demonstrated ability to manage costs, price contracts, and recommend appropriate resourcing strategies
- Awareness of the wider chilled food supply chain and distribution (advantageous)
Qualifications (Desirable / Advantageous)
- Food Safety Level 2
- Degree-level or operational education
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications
